Picnics and money

Big Talk

This week for your Big Talk we would like you to talk about...

Can you recognise each of the characters?

What do you think each of them do on a daily basis?

What do you think each of their favourite foods might be?

What do you think each of the characters are really like?

Who would you invite to your picnic?

Which foods would you take?

English & Topic

This week we have continued with our Best of British topic and all of the children got to make their own sandwich which they enjoyed in a classroom picnic (as always the great British weather let us down!). The children had lots of fun making cakes to enjoy as well.

For our English work children have written instructions on how to make a sandwich, listened to and written picnic themed poems and also designed their perfect picnic after listening to The Lighthouse Keeper's Picnic.

Maths

In maths we have continued to look at money but this week we have focused on giving change (subtraction). The children have been using coins, tens and ones and also an empty number line to work out the correct change. Don't forget that there are lots of great online games https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/money you can play, and it is also great to give children pots of coins to help with count on, add and subtract.

Here's a great video to explain subtraction on an empty number line:
