Week 5

English

This week in English we have been reading the traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood. We have read a few different versions of the stories and know that traditional tales have been retold for many years and are often told slightly differently. Can you share a version that you know at home?

We have been looking at the different features of letters such as address, date, greeting, main body and farewell. We have also been thinking about asking and answering questions and how and when to use a question mark. Can you think of any questions you might like to ask the wolf, Granny or Little Red Riding Hood?

We will be writing letters to Little Red Riding Hood this week and hopefully she will reply!

Maths

In maths we have continued to look at number bonds to 10 and 20, adding and subtracting 10s using a 100 square and also using coins.

As part of your home learning it would be really great if you could practise your number bonds to 10 and then 20. Here is a useful video to watch https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwv39j6/articles/zx3982p

Here is a game you could play... https://www.mathplayground.com/number_bonds_20.html

Next week we are going to be looking at money. If you have any change at home it would be great to discuss the different coins with children and to let them play with them.

Big Talk

Read this story starter and then talk about the answers below...

In the deepest, darkest depths of the forest, Mr. Wolf waited.

His disguise hadn’t worked, but that didn’t concern him. Now, the boy thought he was safe. Mr. Wolf didn’t think he was. Mr. Wolf knew exactly where he was. He could sense him. He could smell him. He could almost taste him…

Where is the person trying to escape Mr. Wolf?

Who is he/she and why are they being chased?

What kind of character do you think Mr. Wolf is?

How do you think Mr. Wolf found the person?

Why is he dressed in a suit?

What is it like inside the tree? How is the person feeling?

If you were inside the tree, how would you escape?
