Jade Blog week beginning 20.10.25

This week...
In project we have been learning about maps. In Rosie's Walk we used google earth to look at where we live, talk about physical features and also looked at what the world looks like as an aerial view. In All Through The Night we discussed people who help us in the community plus the emergency services.

The daily stories have been books to develop the children's emotional literacy.
In phonics this week we have covered l, f,b,ai, j. The children will all be given a sheet of sounds in their bookbags this week. These sounds can be cut up and used as flash cards to practise over half term. These are the sounds that they have covered so far. The more the children practise these the better they will get. You can also make cvc words out of them to practice blending skills e.g. c-a-t, s-i-t, c-a-p.
In maths this week we investigate Numberblock Four and how 4 can be made up in different ways e.g. 2 blocks on top of another 2 blocks or as a line of 3 with 1 on top.

We are continuing to do dough disco and squiggle daily to build up our motor skills. We have also been using peg, plastic tweezers and tongs to help us to develop skills for using scissors correctly. Perhaps the children could practise using scissors over the half term.
All year groups worked hard on producing a piece of poppy art that will go on the school fence to be part of the poppy tour in Old Catton. This was organised by the Royal British Legion. Why don’t you come and see it in the half term? Poppies have been on sale this week and we have talked to the children about what the poppy symbolises and why people wear them at this time of year.

Well done - the Reception children have all made it through their first half term at Garrick Green. They have already learned a lot and will continue to do so after a good rest over half term! We hope you all have a good break!
