This week .....

In phonics the children have learnt ee as ea  -  seat, treat.  We continued to hear the children read.  We have revised all of the blue tricky words and introduced the tricky words - come, some.   Please keep practising reading the tricky words at home.  In Talk Through Stories we discussed vocabulary from the story Six Dinner Sid.  We talked about -  discovered, slipped out, unlike, tough, damp, suspicious, believed and furious.  The children have also visited the school library this week.  We have visited over the past couple of terms and a group of children choose books for us to have in our classroom.  We also enjoy listening to a story in the library.  This week we enjoyed listening to the story Zog and The Flying Doctors.

We have also continued with dictated sentences so the children get lots of practice of the key skills and they are embedded in enough time before they go into Year 1.  We have also done  story scribes and acted these out.   This week, the children practised forming the letters c, a and  d.

In maths we looked at the order of numbers and used the language of more and fewer to describe them.

The children were very excited to come to school in their pyjamas for World Book Day.  We read the story  - The Magic Bed by John Burningham and played games, made book marks and they designed their own magic beds.

In project, the children listened to the story - The Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson.  We then compared dolls from the past and present and found out about why children had handkerchief dolls.  The children then made their own version of a handkerchief doll out of fabric, stuffing and pipe cleaners.

In RSHE we will be discussing good and bad touch linking with the NSPCC Pants work.

We will be carrying out assessments next week so we will not be hearing your child read.  We will be continuing with phonics, maths and set sentence writing but not story scribes.
