Jade Class Blog - Week commencing 12.1.26

This week .....

In Talk Through Stories we have been talking about the story - One Snowy Night.  The children have been thinking about problems in the story, how these were solved.  We also talked about some new words and learnt the meaning of them.

In Phonics we have been  learning about short vowels as well as continuing to revise the digraphs taught so far.

We have started doing set sentence which is when the adults dictate a sentence and the children use all of their phonic and grammar knowledge to write it independently. This is something we do twice a week at the moment to enable the children to become more independent with applying their skills.

We continued to hear the children read.  Some children have got a blend game or word and picture cards to read.   We cannot emphasise how much reading a little every day at home can benefit the children so thank you for your help with this.   Remember to write in their reading record book when they have read at home.

We have also continued  to do story scribes one to one with each child.  The children have been excited to tell us their stories and are beginning to find read tricky words and use them in their stories.  Please keep practising reading the tricky words that we sent home before Christmas.

We are also continuing to practise letter formation as a lot of children are not forming the letters correctly. This week we have been practising n, h, m.

In maths we continued to look at the parts a whole number can be split into. We used our fingers to demonstrate this to give the children a concrete way of working this out. We also be did some subitising - recognising an amount without counting. We used the story Kipper's Toybox to demonstrate to the children the importance of counting accurately. We  showed the children that lining up objects can help with this and also by touching or moving each object can make sure that we are more accurate.

In project we read the story One Year With Kipper and they will learnt about the seasons and what changes might happen. They learnt the language before, now and then.

In RE the children continued to learn about New Year celebrations and this week they looked at how Chinese New Year is celebrated. In RSHE we are learning about being safe online and we will read the story Chicken Clicking to help with this.

Have a good week!
