Jade Class Blog - week commencing 1.6.26

This week. ...

In phonics we have been revising the different alternatives for ee  e.g.   -  ea  ( sea) , e -e  ( Pete)   and y   ( mummy).  We have also been revising all of the blue tricky words but lots of children still need to work on recognising these words quickly on sight.

We have also been practising reading words which contain split digraphs as they are finding it rather challenging to spot the digraphs within words.

We are continuing to write a daily dictated sentence and we are adding more tricky words into these, so the children get used to finding the words on the mat and become more familiar with how they are spelt.  The children are doing weekly handwriting practice.

In Talk Through Stories we read the story - After the Fall.  The children really enjoyed finding out about what happened next to Humpty Dumpty, especially when the egg cracked and out came a bird!

Next week we will be discussing vocabulary from the book.

In maths we learnt how to use a rekenrek - this is a manipulative that helps the children develop a concrete understanding of number.  It is a counting frame similar to an abacus and throughout their time at Garrick Green the children will use this resources more and more to support their understanding of mathematical concepts.

In project we have  continued with our project - Sunshine and Sunflowers.  We read the book - Look What I Found on the Farm.

We thought about what we might find on a farm. The children were able to name different types of animals and plants that we might find on the farm.  We went on a virtual tour of a farm and looked at wheat, rape seed, cows and hedgrows.  The children then enjoyed being able to make their own farms out of the small world toys.

On Monday, the children were very lucky to take part in an African Drumming workshop.  They got to play an African drum called a Djembe.

We also listened to an African song and learnt ‘hello’ in Swahili -  ‘ jambo’.

In RE we read the story - Noah's Ark and talked about being kind and respectful.

The children have had a great first week back.  Have a great weekend.
