This week .....
In phonics we learnt the alternative ph for /f/ e.g. elephant, telephone. The children continued to revise all of the digraphs and trigraphs learnt so far. They would benefit from continuing to revise the alternatives aw, al and au e.g. saw, talk, caught. We continued with set sentence and focussed on using the tricky word ‘she’. In handwriting we practised forming the letter g - thinking carefully about which way the catchy tail went! We have also been practising our pencil grip - making sure that we ‘nip, flip and grip’ the pencil.

In maths, we used our quick eyes for subitising groups of objects, describing how we know if it is a group of 6 or not. We looked out for patterns/arrangements of dots to represent a number. We also listened to rhythmic patterns of up to 5 sounds e.g clapping and counted how many we heard. The children revised even numbers and identified them by using Numberblocks - flat tops. We talked about how the Even Top Numberblocks can be made as a double because we can see the 2 parts are the same. We used a ten frame and counters to represent even numbers, showing doubles and 2 equal parts.

4 is made of 2 and 2, 2 and 2 make 4
In project we listened to the story - The Secret Sky Garden. Then we went for a walk in the school garden and identified different features, e.g garden shed, greenhouse, pond, tables, seats, bug hotel. We then drew our own plan of the school garden.

In RE, we talked about special buildings around the world and then thought about places special to us. The children then drew a picture of their special place.
Don’t forget that there is a Bank Holiday next week and we start back on Tuesday. Hopefully the weather will stay nice and you will be able to do lots of fun things.
