This week...
in Phonics we have been going over some of the digraphs that the children are finding tricky e.g. ng, ch, oo/oo, sh and th/th. In Year 1 they have been looking at ou/ow. We are trying to really practise our blending skills so that all children are becoming more confident. Thank you to all the families that practised the digraphs on the yellow card we sent home in the holidays. Hoepfully most of the children know those sounds now and can move on to the next stage of reading books.
We are continuing to write a daily dictated sentence and we are adding more tricky words into these, so the children get used to finding the words on the mat and become more familiar with how they are spelt. We are also carrying on with story scribes and acting these out. The children are doing weekly handwriting practice and this week it is s.
In Talk Through Stories the vocabulary for the week is -
eventually, famous, grand, fortunately, admit, perfect and terrified. The children have already started tiro use these words in their speaking.
We will also have our dedicated library time as well as sharing a daily story.
In maths we are learning how to use a rekenrek - this is a manipulative that will help children develop a concrete understanding of number. It is a counting frame similar to an abacus and throughout their time at Garrick Green the children will use this resources more and more to support their understanding of mathematical concepts.
In project the children are learning about how animals can help us and we will specifically look at sheep dogs. The children will then learn how to use a remote-control tractor to input a set of instructions to follow a route.
In RE the children will be looking at special places and specifically Mosques. In RSHE we will be continuing to develop an understanding about safety through reading the book 'The Internet is like a Puddle' it is about using the internet safely and that it can be fun but there are also dangers to be aware of.
We hope you have a good week!
