Olive and Jade Blog 13.5.25

This week...
in Phonics Reception children are learning about the soft g sound which changes to a j sound if the g is followed by an e, i or y e.g. giant. Year 1s are learning about the alternatives for the long o sound - oa, o_e and ow e.g. soak, tone and bowl.
The children are continuing to write a dictated sentence daily as well as their story scribes. We also have daily dough disco which seems to be helping to build up their fine motor skills for writing.
In Talk Through Stories the words we are learning this week are - squealed, gathered, towering, squabbling, convinced, sprinted and scurried.
We are also hearing the children read at least once a week - it is noticeable the children who are reading a little at home each day too - please try to write in the reading record book if you hear your child read at home. There are still a few children who are not secure with some of the digraphs so please keep practising these so that they are confident. We also practice these daily in our phonics sessions.
In maths we are really focussing on the number bonds (pairs of numbers) that add together to make 10.
The children need to be secure in their knowledge of number bonds to 5 and know the number bonds to 10 to really help them with their maths in the future. We teach the children to use their fingers to help
In Project the children have the leader of our gardening club coming in to talk to the children about how to grow plants and vegetables. They will also learn how to care for plants and make sure that they have everything they need to grow. They will also look at identifying different vegetables.
In RE the children will look at special buildings and iconic landmarks. In RSHE we are going over the NSPCC PANTS materials and reminding ourselves that what is inside our pants is private. We will also talk about people we trust. If you would like further information on this - the website is very good - https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/support-for-parents/pants-underwear-rule/
Thank you all for being so good at applying sunscreen before school - it makes a massive difference!
Have a good week!
