Olive and Jade Blog 19.5.25

This week...
in Phonics we are doing the alternatives for the ai digraph - ai, a_e, ay snail, gate, hay. The Year 1s are learning alternatives for ue - u_e, ew e.g. pew, tube. We are sending home a double sided sheet of sounds to practice over the holidays as some children are still struggling with these and they need to have an instant recollection to be able to progress. Until children know all of these then they cannot move onto red books.
we have been writing a daily dictated sentences which we are making more and more challenging! If you would like to continue this over the half term break then here are a few ideas of sentences to try. We remind the children to concentrate on hearing all of the sounds in the words, finger spaces and correct letter formation.
The man had a garden.
She went to the shop.
We got a new green car.
He wore a black top.
The boy sang a song.
We have also been continuing to do story scribes and act these out.
In Talk Through Stories we are reading 'After the Fall' which the children are enjoying!
The children are showing great curiosity about the book and have got lots of questions to ask. We are going to see if the author has written any more books!
In maths we are really focussing on the order of numbers 1 - 10 and increasing our understanding of the vocabulary more and less. You can practise this at home by asking your child what is one more than, one less than, can you tell me a number that is more than, can you tell me a number less than...
In Project the children are going to listen to the story Farmyard Hullabaloo and then they are going to go into the school garden to see if they can hear any animal sounds. They will then choose something to have a go at doing an observational drawing of.
In RSHE we are learning more about safety by reading the book Monkeycow and discussing the story. It is about not believing everything you see and keeping information secure.
On Thursday we have our maths story cafe - it would be great to see as many of you as possible at this event!
We hope you all have a lovely half term before the last half term in Olive and Jade Class! When we return we will be doing work on transition and preparing the children for their move into Year 1 and 2.
