Number lines, Dragon stories and Picture Frames

English

In English this week we have been reading the story "George and the Dragon". We have sequences pictures to retell the story and learned all about adjectives. We have practised using these to describe the dragon in the story. Here is a picture of the cover so that you can have a go at describing it at home.

Maths

In maths this week we have been learning about addition and subtraction. We have made sure we understand the symbols +, - and = and know what they mean. We have then been learning about how to use a number line to add and subtract.

We have made sure we understand that adding can be done in any order, so it is best to start with the larger number, but that subtraction must be done that way it is written.

4 + 15 =

For this you need to start with 15 and then count on 4 more to find the answer.

However

You always need to start with the first number, 17, and then count back 8.

The year 2 children have also been learning about number lines. They have been drawing their own number lines and also thinking about adding by jumping 10's.

Topic

Last week in our topic session we learned about how to strengthen structures using struts or card corners. We designed a picture frame using what we have learned. This week we have been busy making our picture frames! We have measured and cut the wood with saws, then used the hot glue gun to attach them and make a frame. Next we will put our sketches in and finish them.

Big Talk

This week we have been learning about adjectives - describing words. Look at the picture below. Can you describe the creature? Use as any interesting adjectives as you can think of.
