Year 1 Spring Fling and Year 2 Maths. Everyones emotions.

Spring Fling

This week the Year 1 children performed their "Spring Fling" show to the whole school and then to their parents. The children were amazing! They have found the practises a bit tricky as they have never been involved in a performance at school before. However, everyone took part in some way. The dress rehearsal for the rest of the school to watch was a daunting and overwhelming experience for a few children, but they still joined in. We were so proud of all of the children when we repeated our performances for parents. Lots of children overcame their nerves and spoke, clearly, sang beautifully and danced happily. They had produced some lovely poems and art work too.

So a huge well done to all of the year 1 children. We could not feel prouder of your achievements.

A huge "Thank you" to all the parent's, grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and friends who came to support the children too. It makes such a difference to the children.

Year 2

Whilst all the rehearsing and performing for the year 1 show was happening the year 2 children carried on working hard. Miss Betts taught all the children together each morning, and they focussed on Maths. They focussed on number work and started by recapping all the addition and subtraction learning from this year. They used a range of resources to help. The Year 2 children then recapped their learning about numbers and how to partition them into 10 and ones. Finally, the children focussed on adding and subtracting 10, or multiples of 10, from a 2-digit number. They looked for patterns in the number sentences to see if this helped their understanding. For example - 13 + 10 = 23 and 13 + 20 = 33 - the children noticed that when adding 10 the tens number is the 10 that changes and the ones number stays the same.

Here are some to try;

16 + 10 =                                                          57 - 10=

25 - 10 =                                                          89 + 10 =

45 + 30 =                                                        99 - 40 =

37 + 60 =                                                          82 - 30 =

How did you work out the answer? How will you record what you did?

Topic

All of the children have continued their topic learning this week and have been finishing their picture frames. Last week we learned about how to safely use tools and then cut and glued the wood for our frames. Then we strengthened the corners. This week the children have decorated their frames and used the hot glue gun again to add the sketch they drew. There are some lovely designs and great sketches. The children are looking forward to bringing them home to show you.

Big Talk

Below is a word art image of the emotions lots of us, children and grown up's, felt this week.

Your challenge for "Big Talk" is to talk about the emotion words.

Can you describe what that feeling is like for you?

Does it make your body feel different in some way?

When did you feel like this?

What can you do to help yourself if you feel one of these emotions? (breathing, yoga, something from our DOTS lessons?)

REMEMBER - all of these emotions are ok. Different people feel them at different times and for different reasons. You are not wrong to be feeling any of these things or none of these things.
