Time, Dragon stories and Picture frames.

English

In English this week we have been reading the story "George and the Dragon". We have sequences pictures to retell the story and learned all about adjectives. We have practised using these to describe the dragon in the story. Here is a picture of the cover so that you can have a go at describing it at home.

Maths

In maths this week we have continued our learning about time. We learned about analogue clocks and noticed that the numbers only go to 12.  We found out that on our classroom clock there are 3 hands - a second hand, a minute and an hour hand. We made our own clocks thinking carefully about the minute and hour hands. We learned that when the minute hand is pointing at the top of the clock - to the 12 - it means 'o' clock. We used clocks to make 'o' clock times and also drew the hands on clocks to show different 'o' clock times. We also learned that when the minute hand has gone halfway around the clock the time is "half past".

Topic

Last week in our topic session we learned about how to strengthen structures using struts or card corners. We designed a picture frame using what we have learned. This week we have been busy making our picture frames! We have measured and cut the wood with saws, then used the hot glue gun to attach them and make a frame. Next we will put our sketches in and finish them.

Big Talk

This week we have been learning about adjectives - describing words. Look at the picture below. Can you describe the creature? Use as any interesting adjectives as you can think of.
