Making totals to 10 and King Henry VIII

Big Talk

Using the picture talk about...

  • What is the person’s job? What are they doing?
  • Do you think they enjoy their job?
  • What subjects do you think they enjoyed at school?
  • What do you think they have seen through the telescope?
  • How does a telescope work?
  • What subjects do you enjoy at school?
  • What job would you like when you’re older?

Phonics

This week in phonics we are continuing to learn the digraphs and use them in our reading and spelling. Please keep practising your reading at home and see if you can spot any of the digraphs we have been learning in your reading book.

English

Last week we learnt about questions and question marks. (?) This week we received an exciting letter from King Henry VIII. He told us about his life and asked us some questions about school and the things we liked to do. We thought about answers to his questions and asked him some questions of our own. We learnt about how to set out a letter, remembering to put "Dear........" at the top and then we wrote our own letters to King Henry.

Maths

In maths this week we have been using our knowledge of numbers to find and learn all the pairs that total 10. It is really important that we know these and can recall them quickly. Here is a great song to help you practise at home.

This week we have been investigating the properties of different materials. We learnt the words; smooth, rough, bendy, stiff, flexible, hard, soft, bumpy, and we used them to describe a range of different materials. Then we learned about what a shield was and what it was used for. We put our knowledge from the investigation to use by selecting the material we would use to make our own shield and say why we chose it.
