The Magic Bed, Counting in 2's and 5's and Henry Blog

English

This week we have continued to read the story "The Magic Bed" by John Burningham. We started the week by reading the last page of the story and then thinking about where Georgie might go on his next adventure. We used the sentence starter ;

"I think Georgie went to ................... because......."

The children chose a new land from pictures we had in the classroom and wrote their sentence. Then we thought about adjectives to describe the land. What could we see? What could we hear? What did it feel like there? Next we planned what might happen in the land and drew pictures to sequence our own story. Finally, we have put all our ideas together and wrote our own adventure for Georgie.

Phonics

This week in phonics we have been recapping all the sounds and focussing on reading and then spelling the tricky words. Here are some that are easily misspelt that you can practise at home.

they                said                        here                      where                       there

Maths

In our maths lessons we have carried on counting in 2's and practised counting in 5's. We have then been using our knowledge to multiply byte making groups of 2 or groups of 5. Here are some to try at home;

Topic

Our topic work this week has been learning about a Norfolk hero: Henry Blog. Henry Blog was a crab fisherman and coxswain of the Cromer lifeboat from 1909 - 1947.  If you go to Cromer on a day out you can visit the RNLI Henry Blog museum.
