The Queen's Hat and Doubling

Big Talk

As we continue our learning about castles have a look at this castle picture and try to answer the questions below.

Frozen Castle Wallpapers - Wallpaper Cave

Where could this castle be?

How would you get to it?

Who do you think built it?

Who do you think might live here?

Would you like to live here? Why/Why not?

If you could build a castle anywhere, where would you choose?

English

This week in English we have been listening to the story "The Queen's Hat". Here is a Youtube video the story being read by the author Steve Anthony.

First we thought about how a story is made up with a beginning, middle and end. Then we worked together to sequence large pictures about the story and retell it in the correct order. Once we knew the story well we acted parts our and practised "Freeze frames" to show what happened. After we had heard the story lots of times and retold it we then put pictures in order ourselves and wrote a sentence about them. We focussed on saying a whole sentence and then writing it using the sounds we could hear and tricky word mats.

Maths

In maths this week we have been learning our doubles. We have found out what a double is and then made them using cubes, numicon, our fingers and by drawing them on ladybirds. Some children have also been able to write them down as a number sentence. It is important that we know our doubles quickly as these really help us with lost of maths. Here are the ones we learned:

1+1

2+2

3+3

4+4

Topic

In our topic work this week we have been learning about the life of Queen Elizabeth II. We found out about important events in her life and put them into chronological order, We thought about how things have changed since she was little and what is different now compared to when she was little.
