English

Year 1

Year 1 children are continuing learning about “The Secret Sky Garden” by Linda Sarah and Fiona Lumbers. We are focussing on the kite Funni had, finding and using adjectives to describe it. Then we designed and made our own kites before writing instructions so that someone else can make one too! We also designed and made our own secret garden using transient art materials.

Year 2

The year 2 children are learning all about the importance of bees and using lots of drama techniques in preparation for their end of year show. Exciting times!

Maths

Year 1

The year 1 children are continuing to learn about “teen” numbers. We are using part whole models to partition numbers into tens and ones and also finding the missing parts when we know the total. Then we compared “teen” numbers using the greater than and less than symbols and wrote our own equations from listening to word problems.

Here are some you could try at home.

Year 2

This week the year 2 children are investigating position and direction. They are thinking about turns - half turns, quarter and three quarter turns and using the words clockwise and anticlockwise. They will be using Bee Bots, maps and lots of other resources to help them.

Project

Our new project is called “Plant Parts” and is a science project. The children will be visiting the garden to look at the different types of flowers and plants. They will be identifying the parts of a plant and looking at which plants grow from seeds and which grow from bulls. They will also be planting some seeds and looking after them to help them grow.
