Garrick Green

Infant School

Week commencing 24.11.25

This week ....

We  started rehearsals for our Nativity - Christmas Spells Christmas and we continued to practise the songs which you've probably heard at home! We supply all the costumes for the nativity so you don't have to worry. We started costume fitting this week which the children were very excited about! The children listened to the Nativity story too so they understand what the play is about.

In Talk Through Stories we read the story - Where the Wild Things Are.  The words this week are mischief, roared, terrible, staring, tumbled, lonely and blinking. The children have been trying to use these words as part of their every day talk.

In phonics we looked at  ou (count), oi (soil), ue (fuel), er (term) and ar (car).   We have learnt some new tricky words this week - we,be,was,to, do,are, all.  Please continue to support your child reading these at home.

In Project we listened to the story - The Three Billy Goats Gruff.  We then went outside in teams and built bridges to go across a chalked river. The children worked so well together and used crates, planks, tyres, plastic building blocks and ladders to make some fantastic bridges.

In maths we are learning about the parts that make up a whole e.g. that 4 can be made up of 3 and 1 or 2 and 2. We watched the numberblocks episode the whole of me which brought the concept alive for the children. Click here to watch!

We started our assessments this week and  we have been assessing writing so we  didn’t do story scribes this week. The children were able to show us what they have learnt in their writing.  Next week we will be carrying on with our assessments and will not be doing readers next week.  Please continue to hear your child read and play lots of games with the tricky words and word box words.

We are revisiting the NSPCC Pants resources where the children will continue to learn about what's inside your pants is private.

The school fair is on Friday next week - 5th December.  There will be more information coming out about this.
