Butterflies

Welcome to the Summer term

In Butterflies Class, our topic for the Summer term will be “Get Set Go!”  We will be discovering all about our health and how to look after ourselves; how to get fit, eat well, and be happy!  We will explore a variety of sports and types of exercises and find out how physical activity can be fun AND keep us fit.  We will also be exploring our senses, learning to sequence the human life cycle and compare it to other animals!

During our International Week, we will be learning all about Costa Rica; the famous landmarks and buildings, traditional food and listening to music associated with Costa Rica. If you or your child would like to bring in any souvenirs or have any interesting facts, your teacher would love to hear or see them during our International Week!

Within our Art topic, we will be exploring printing and making marks with different materials. We will create a printing block based on a Costa Rican ox cart with repeating shapes. In Design and Technology we will learn how to create simple levers and sliders and create our very own moving cards!

Our Science topic will focus on our health, senses, the human life cycle, and animal life cycles. We will also be looking at the seasons. During our History lessons, we will be focusing on the history of football!

Miss Lilley will be teaching in Butterflies Monday - Wednesday. Mrs Barnard will be teaching in Butterflies on a Thursday and Friday.

Please continue to check Tapestry as we shall be sharing the children’s work and the different activities we will be doing.

If you have any queries or concerns, or if you would like an appointment to see your class teacher, Miss Lilley/Mrs Barnard will be available at the class entrance each morning.  If a meeting is required, Miss Lilley/Mrs Barnard can also be available after school. Please contact them to arrange this in advance.

PE

We have PE every Tuesday.  We ask that your child wears their PE kit to school on this day.  Please could earrings be removed and longer hair tied back on PE days.  PE kit should include black shorts, a white t-shirt, plimsolls and black tracksuit bottoms or leggings.

Please also ensure that your child has spare clothing in their bags in case of any toilet accidents.  These should be kept in school on your child’s coat peg.

COOKING

The children will take part in cooking / food preparation activities throughout this term, learning a range of useful life skills linked to cooking.  Food will be consumed in class in our daily snack session.

HOMEWORK

Each week your child’s homework will be to complete 30 minutes of Reading Eggs; this is assessed and monitored weekly and to complete a task on School Jam, a Maths App linked to Power Maths.

Children will read daily in school as part of their Read Write Inc lesson, and we ask that they also read at home three times a week, with diaries being read and signed each time.  This will help your child to receive their reading sticker and once their bookmark is filled with stickers, lead to them choosing a book of their own to keep and enjoy.

If you have any queries in regards to this homework, please don't hesitate to speak to Miss Lilley or Mrs Barnard.
