Squirrels

Welcome to Squirrels Class!

Your class teachers are Miss Barley (Monday-Friday), Mrs Houston (Monday-Tuesday) and Mrs Paterson (Wednesday-Friday).  Your other class staff are Miss Ladbrooke and Miss Olley.

Our Autumn term topic is ‘Magical Me!'

In the first few weeks of the Autumn term we will be settling into our new classroom and getting to know the space and the adults working with us, along with our Golden rules.

As we settle into our new routines, we will:

  • Practice lots of our art skills and make self-portraits

  • Learn all about how we have changed and share photos of us when we were babies

  • Talk about people who are special to us and what makes us special

  • Learn about the people who help us

  • Become scientists and use our senses to explore the world around us

  • Look at the season of Autumn and notice lots about it

  • Think about what a plant needs to live and how to look after it and plant our own seeds and watch them grow

  • Explore our school grounds and make maps and models of what we see in our environment

  • Share our favourite toys and talk about why they are special to us

  • Design and make our own toy

Our 'International Week' this term will focus on learning about Canada.  We will find out about the similarities and differences between Canada and the UK, including schools, homes, weather, food, traditions and music, as well as exploring the famous landmarks of Canada.

Toward the end of the Autumn term, we will take part in our enterprise weeks, where we will design and make something to sell.

We will learn all about the Nativity and put on a Christmas production for our adults and learn about different religions and their celebrations as well as celebrations that are special to us.

You will receive a topic web, which will show you in more detail the learning your child will be covering.  Please check Tapestry regularly to see what your child has been up to in class and leave a comment if you would like to.  We would love to see photos, comments and entries from you too, to share what you have been up to at home.  We look forward to the term ahead and sharing our learning with you!  If you have any questions, queries or worries, please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of our staff team either in person at the door, through Tapestry or via a phone call or email to the school office.

Please click on the menu items below for more information...

COOKING

Our cooking day will usually be on a Monday, however we often cook in class and enjoy trying our food together on the carpet.  If we have food to send home, we will notify you by email beforehand, so you can send in a container if you would like to.

PE

In Reception our formal PE lessons begin in the Spring Term.  We will notify you of this nearer the time.

Please also ensure that your child has spare clothing in their bags in case of any toilet accidents.  These should be kept in school on your child’s coat peg.

Homework

Please read or share a book with your child at least three times a week and note this in their Reading Record.

Please support your child to complete the activities on Reading Eggs on a weekly basis.

Occasionally we may set simple topic-related challenges based on the children’s learning in class.  If so we will share these challenges with you via letter and on Tapestry.
