Butterflies

Welcome to the Summer term and our new topic, “Get Set Go!”

In Butterflies class, we will be learning all about our health and how to look after ourselves; how to get fit, eat well, and be happy! We will explore a variety of sports and types of exercises and find out how physical activity can be fun AND keep us fit. We will also be exploring our senses, learning to sequence the human life cycle and compare it to contrasting animals!

Within our Art topic, we will be improving our sketching skills through drawing the London Aquatic Centre as well as exploring some printing. During our Design and technology focus, we will be developing our knowledge of creating moving levers and sliders to create our very own obstacle courses!

During International Week, we will be learning all about Peru; the famous landmarks and buildings, traditional food and listening to music associated with Peru. If you or your child would like to bring in any souvenirs or have any interesting facts, your teacher would love to hear or see them during our International Week!

Our Science topic will focus on our health, senses, the human life cycle, and animal life cycles. We will also be looking at the seasons. During our History lessons, we will be focusing on the history of the Olympics, as well as participating in our own class Olympics.

Miss Lilley will be teaching Butterflies Monday - Friday.

Please continue to check Tapestry as we will be sharing the children’s work and the different activities we will be doing.

If you have any queries or concerns, or if you would like an appointment to see your class teacher, Miss Lilley will be at the class entrance each morning. If a meeting is needed, Miss Lilley is also available after school, please contact her to arrange this in advance.

PE

We have PE every Tuesday and Thursday.  We ask that your child wears their PE kit to school on these days.  Please could earrings be removed and longer hair tied back on PE days.  PE kit should include black shorts, a white t-shirt, plimsolls and black tracksuit bottoms or leggings.

Please also ensure that your child has spare clothing in their bags in case of any toilet accidents.  These should be kept in school on your child’s coat peg.

COOKING

The children will take part in cooking/ food preparation activities throughout this term, learning a range of useful life skills linked to cooking. Food will be consumed in class at our daily snack session.

HOMEWORK

Each week your child’s homework will be to complete 30 minutes of Reading Eggs; this is assessed and monitored weekly and to complete a task on School Jam, a Maths App linked to Power Maths.

Children will read daily in school as part of their Read Write Inc lesson, and we ask that they also read at home three times a week, with diaries being read and signed each time.  This will help your child to receive their reading sticker and once their bookmark is filled with stickers, lead to them choosing a book of their own to keep and enjoy.

If you have any queries in regard to this homework, please don't hesitate to speak to Miss Lilley.
