Heather Avenue

Infant School

Welcome to Squirrels Class!

Our topic for the Spring term is 'To Infinity and Beyond!'

We will be learning all about space! We will be exploring what space looks like, including learning about different planets and the other things we would see in space as well as learning about people who have been to space. We will create our own space adventures, thinking about what we would need to go to space and how we would get there! Parents / carers will receive a topic web at the beginning of the term to share all the exciting space activities we will be doing!

Later in the term we will have our International Week, which will be focusing on Egypt. We will be looking at similarities and differences between cultures, including schools, homes, animals, landscapes, food and music.

Please keep looking at Tapestry to see photos of our work. Please add your own observations onto Tapestry if your child has completed some learning with you at home which you would like to share. We look forward to sharing our work with you through the Spring Term!

Our cooking day will be Monday. Please ensure that your child has a named container with a lid every Monday so that they can take their tasty treats home! Please note that on some occasions, the children's cooking is eaten in class with the children as it may not be practical for them to bring their cooking home (e.g. toast).

In Reception, we make use of our outdoor spaces by offering opportunities for physical education throughout the week. Squirrels will begin PE lessons this term, every Tuesday and Thursday; please ensure that your child comes to school in their PE kit on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please also ensure that your child has spare clothing in their bags in case of any toilet accidents - These should be kept in school.  Please ensure earrings are removed on these days and that your child's hair is tied back.

Please read with your child at least three times a week and record this in their reading record. Children should be encouraged to use their phonic knowledge to segment and blend words when reading new words for the first time.
Please also encourage your child to use Reading Eggs and Letterjoin to support their reading and writing skills. We would recommend this is done on a weekly basis.

Please speak to Miss Stan, Mrs Bennett, Mrs Blyth or Mrs Allen if you have any questions. We look forward to sharing our work with you throughout the Spring Term! Please remember to check Tapestry for updates on what your child has been doing. Please add your own observations onto Tapestry if your child has completed some learning with you at home which you would like to share.
