Hellesdon High School

Celebrating Carers Week and Our Young Carers

Last week marked Carers Week, and we took the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contribution of Young Carers within our school community.

To support student wellbeing and raise awareness, we welcomed Mini Donks for Wellbeing into school. Students enjoyed spending time with the donkeys, which provided a calm and uplifting experience for everyone involved.

As part of our Carers Week activities, several of our Young Carers kindly took part in creating voice recordings about their experiences. In these recordings, students spoke honestly about what it is like to be a Young Carer and the responsibilities they manage alongside school life. The recordings were shared with all students during Tutor time across the week, helping to promote understanding, empathy and appreciation among the wider student body.

In addition, last week our Young Carers Group met for a creative workshop where students made dreamcatchers. Using vibrant coloured wool and felt feathers, the group produced some truly beautiful and imaginative designs. The session was a wonderful opportunity for students to relax, connect with one another and express their creativity.

We are incredibly proud of all our Young Carers for their resilience, creativity and willingness to share their stories. Their contributions help make our school a more supportive and understanding community.
