Starting at Hellesdon High School is an exciting milestone, but we recognise that it can also bring significant change for both students and their families. We are committed to making this transition as smooth, supportive, and positive as possible, ensuring every student feels confident and ready to begin their journey with us.

To support this, we begin our transition process as early as possible and provide a range of opportunities for prospective students to become familiar with the school, our staff, and our expectations.

Our transition programme includes:

• Year 6 Open Evening (October): An opportunity for students and families to explore the school, meet staff, and learn more about life at Hellesdon.

• Early visits to primary schools: Key transition staff visit local primary schools to begin building relationships and supporting students ahead of their move.

• Invitations to school productions: Local primary schools are welcomed to attend our school play, giving students an early experience of our vibrant school community.

• Extended transition for vulnerable pupils: Additional visits and tailored support are provided for students who may benefit from extra time and reassurance.

• Three transition days in July: All students are invited to spend time at the school, meet their peers and teachers, and experience a typical school day.

• Behaviour and expectations alignment: During visits, we introduce our behaviour language and expectations to ensure consistency and confidence from day one.

• Staggered start in September: A carefully planned start to the school year helps students settle in gradually and comfortably.

We believe that strong relationships and early familiarity are key to a successful transition. Our approach ensures that every student feels welcomed, supported, and ready to thrive as they begin their journey at Hellesdon High School.

Welcome to our school and to the beginning of an alliance aimed at ensuring every student, no matter what their starting point, enjoys, achieves and succeeds throughout their education with us.

Hellesdon High School and Sixth Form is an ambitious and caring school. We provide a great variety of academic, social and cultural opportunities designed to help our young people to enjoy, achieve and succeed in all aspects of their life. Learning is at the heart of all we do. Through high quality teaching, we ensure every student’s talents and abilities are catered for, allowing them to not just excel academically but also to develop skills which allow them to become more independent in their learning and in preparation for life beyond school.
