Our Local Advisory Board plays an important role in providing confident and strategic leadership, ensuring robust accountability and oversight, and supporting the school’s continued improvement. The board is passionate about education and committed to securing the best possible outcomes for all our pupils.

What does a parent governor do?

As a parent governor, you’ll work alongside other governors and school leaders to help ensure the board carries out its responsibilities effectively. You’ll also play a vital role in connecting the board with parents and the local community, helping to ensure that their views and experiences are understood.

You don’t need to be an education expert. We’re looking for someone who is committed to improving outcomes for children, curious, willing to learn and able to work positively with others.

The board is particularly keen to hear from candidates who have:

• A basic understanding of the educational environment and the challenges facing secondary schools.
• An awareness of the role and responsibilities of a governor, including compliance with policies and regulations.
• A commitment to monitoring school performance targets and objectives.
• A strong commitment to honesty, integrity and confidentiality.
• The ability to act in the best interests of the school, free from personal bias.
• A positive attitude and behaviours that set a good example for the school community.

What is involved?

Governors are expected to:

• Attend one committee meeting each half term, usually on a Thursday at 16:15 in the school library. Meetings last approximately two hours.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect the sensitive nature of discussions.
• Complete statutory online training through the National College.
• Visit the school and meet with senior leaders to monitor an agreed area of responsibility.
• Follow the Governors’ Code of Conduct.

If we receive more applications than there are vacancies, a secret ballot will be carried out. We will let you know closer to the time if this is necessary.
