Infant School

Welcome to Badgers Class! We are really pleased to welcome all our new children and their families to our school and into Badgers Class. Your class teachers are Mrs Houston (Monday- Wednesday) and Mrs Stevens (Thursday – Friday). Your other class staff are Mrs Felstead and Miss Norman (Monday – Friday) and Mrs Barnard (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday).

Our autumn term topics are called Magical Me and Celebrations.

In the first half of the term as part of our Magical Me topic we will be learning all about the parts of the human body and the characteristics that make each of us unique. We will find out how we have changed and grown since we were babies and think about the new skills we will be learning at school. We will read lots of exciting stories including The Rainbow Fish, Dogger and Titch and use these to create our own stories with actions and pictures.

Following the half-term holiday, we have an 'International Week' which will focus on learning about Japan. We will find out about the similarities and differences between cultures including schools, homes, animals, landscapes, food and music as well as exploring the landmarks of Japan.

In the second half of the autumn term we will learn about different kinds of celebrations and discuss the ones that children in Badgers Class celebrate, these will include Birthdays, Christmas, Diwali and more. If you would like to tell us about any celebrations that you celebrate with your child, please speak to a member of the Badgers Class staff team. We will discuss our families and special times that we share. We will share and discuss some more high quality texts including The Elves and the Shoemaker and the Christmas story and use these to create our own story maps.

You will receive a topic web, which will show you in more detail the learning your child will be covering. Please check Tapestry regularly to see what your child has been up to in class and leave a comment if you would like to. We would love to see photos, comments and entries from you too, to share what you have been up to at home.

We look forward to a busy, happy and productive term. If you have any questions, queries or worries please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of our staff team either in person at the door, through Tapestry or via a phone call or email to the school office.

Please click on the menu items below for more information...

The children will be taking part in physical activities and daily exercise in the class inside and outside areas this term. We won’t have formal PE days in class this term, so your child will not need to attend in PE kit unless requested.

Our class cooking day is Tuesday. We will use the kitchen classroom lots and we usually try our finished products in class together. Please check Tapestry to see what we have been up to!

Please read or share a book with your child at least three times a week and note this in their Reading Record. Please help your child to listen out for sounds they recognise from their daily phonics session in class in words. More information about our phonics session will be sent home soon.

Later in the term your child will receive a Reading Eggs website login and password. Please support your child to complete the activities on Reading Eggs on a weekly basis.

Occasionally we may set simple topic-related challenges based on the children’s learning in class. If so we will share these challenges with you via letter and on Tapestry.
