Welcome to Badgers Class!
Your class teachers are Mrs Houston (Monday- Wednesday) and Mrs Waters (Thursday – Friday). Your other class staff are Mrs Felstead and Miss Norman (Monday – Friday) and Mrs Barnard (Tuesday & Thursday).
Our Summer term topic is ‘Journeys and Teddy Bears’ Picnic!'
In the first few weeks of the Summer term we will be hatching chicks! We will be learning about the life cycle of a chicken as well as doing some careful observational drawings and writing about the chicks! We will learn all about the farm and farm vehicles to start our Journeys topic. We will then move on to explore different types of vehicles and design and make our very own vehicle, testing and evaluating it too! We will be exploring our local environment and find out all about the journey of a letter which we will post home as well as thinking about how we can use maps for a journey. We will also become Scientists, investigating how hot air balloons work as well as designing and making our own ones! We will be learning about vehicles from the past and how these have changed over time, including trains and aeroplanes.
Our 'International Week' this term will focus on learning about Kenya. We will find out about the similarities and differences between Kenya and the UK, including schools, homes, weather, food, traditions and music as well as exploring the famous landmarks of Kenya.
We will also be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June where we will be learning all about the Royal family and the Queen’s Coronation. Following this will be our Healthy Living Week, when we will be learning about all the ways we can keep safe and healthy!
For the last 2 weeks of term we will be focussing on our transition topic ‘Teddy Bears’ Picnic’ where we will be planning a picnic for ourselves and our teddy bears! We are going to make our very own teddies by sewing using felt, as well as designing picnic mats and cooking delicious picnic food!
You will receive a topic web, which will show you in more detail the learning your child will be covering. Please check Tapestry regularly to see what your child has been up to in class and leave a comment if you would like to. We would love to see photos, comments and entries from you too, to share what you have been up to at home. We look forward to the term ahead and sharing our learning with you! If you have any questions, queries or worries please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of our staff team either in person at the door, through Tapestry or via a phone call or email to the school office.

Our PE days in Reception are Monday and Wednesday. We ask that your child attend school in their PE kit and warmly dressed on these days, so they will be ready for their PE lesson.
Our cooking day will usually be on a Tuesday, however we often cook in class and enjoy trying our food together on the carpet. If we have food to send home, we will notify you by text beforehand, so you can send in a container if you would like to.
Please read or share a book with your child at least three times a week and note this in their Reading Record. Please help your child to listen out for sounds they recognise from their daily phonics session in class in words. More information about our phonics session will be sent home soon.
Later in the term your child will receive a Reading Eggs website login and password. Please support your child to complete the activities on Reading Eggs on a weekly basis.
Occasionally we may set simple topic-related challenges based on the children’s learning in class. If so we will share these challenges with you via letter and on Tapestry.
