Hellesdon High School

PE Extra-Curricular Report - October 2025

Here is our extra-curricular report for October 2025!

FOOTBALL

In football, the Y7 boys team were given the opportunity to attend a NCFC Schools Festival at Norwich City’s Avant Training Centre. With a range of schools from across Norfolk and Suffolk, the boys did themselves proud by finishing with a P6 W1 D2 L3 record. Unfortunately in 9-a-side games, the boys are still looking for their first win with the A team losing a friendly to a strong Sprowston team and the B team narrowly losing out 4-3 to Taverham in the Community League. Hellesdon’s goals coming from Jacob L, Connor B and Harrison H.

The Y8 boys team though have managed to secure their first wins of the season with the B team enjoying a 4-1 success over Sewell Park and a 7-2 win over OVA in the Community League. Jayden B (3), Arthur (2) and Micah O (2) getting amongst the goals across these two games. A strong finish to the group stage should mean the boys qualify for the cup competition after Christmas.

The Y9 boys team had a mixed month after they were knocked out of the County Cup by Ormiston Venture Academy. The boys though bounced back well in the National Cup to beat Wymondham College 4-1 with goals from George R (2), Reuben R and Harry T.

Our Y10 boys team also had a mixture of results with the A team knocked out of both National Cup and County Cup by Thorpe and Ormiston Venture respectively. The B team faired slightly better when they beat Sprowston B 4-3 in the Community League with goals from Michael B (2), Toby C and Jesswin G. This was followed by a 4-2 defeat to Sewell Park the following week but the boys should still have done enough to qualify the cup competition with two wins out of three in their group.

Finally, the Y11 boys team have had a quiet month as they have awaited other games to be played in the National / County Cups before finding out their next opponents. The B team though did have one very successful game as they beat Sewell Park 6-0 to put themselves in a strong position to finish top of their group and therefore qualify for the cup. Jack T was the star of the show with 4 goals and Harry W chipping in with 2. However, the less said about the Hellesdon missed penalty which ended up in someone’s front garden the better!

RUGBY

Our Y8 boys rugby team got their season up and running when they attended one of the very popular North Walsham rugby days at Scottow. After a morning spent completing a variety of skills sessions, the boys played three games against other schools during the afternoon, going undefeated by winning one and drawing the other two. Try scorers on the day included Ronnie R, Arthur C, Archie C and Riley B. George M was named player of the day for Hellesdon.

The following week it was then the turn of our Y7 girls rugby team to attend a similar day. For many of the girls, it was their first experience playing contact rugby. The progress each of the girls displayed throughout the day was superb and this was then showcased during the afternoon games where the girls were flying into tackles and showing great bravery to run with the ball. Despite narrowly losing both games, to the last play of each game, the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are already looking forward to the next one after half term. Try scorers for Hellesdon were Poppy E (HHS player of the tournament), Yaran M (2) and Thea H (2).

NETBALL

Our U13 girls netball team travelled to Aylsham earlier in the month to play in a hub tournament where they finished with a played 3, won 1 and lost 2 record. More recently, the Y7 and Y9 girls’ teams travelled to City Academy to play in a mini tournament with the Year 7’s winning all their games and the Year 9 team winning one and drawing their other game. Players of the tournament were Daniella M (Y7) and Aylanah B (Y9).

CRICKET

Our Y10 boys cricket team were recently invited to play in an U15 Indoor Cricket Festival at the UEA where they competed against 3 other schools in a round robin tournament. In their first game, the boys faced a much more experienced Old Buckenham team and unfortunately lost out by 37 runs. Michael B though displayed some fantastic bowling to pick up two wickets (both bowled) in two balls. Game 2 was a very tight affair with Open Academy; Batting first, Open made 147/3 and despite a late wobble, Hellesdon did enough to win by 11 runs as they finished on 158/3. In their final game, Hellesdon achieved their highest batting total of the afternoon but it was not quite enough as a very talented Aylsham team ran out winners by 51 runs. Overall, the boys finished a very creditable 3rd, especially given that for many of the boys it was their first taste of indoor cricket.

SPORTS LEADERS

At the beginning of the month, Mrs Bradshaw took a group of our new Y9 girls sports leaders to a ‘Girls Active Leadership’ day held at the UEA Sportspark This event was designed at empowering girls to develop confidence as leaders and introduce them to various organisational-based and officiating skills within sport.

The girls all had a great day taking part in a variety of different workshops led and were a credit to the school with the way they conducted themselves throughout the day.
