Canaries help Firside raise thousands

Joining forces with Norwich City’s community foundation helped a Wensum Trust school raise around £4,500 to help provide children with a new set of ipads.
The Canaries’ Community Sports Foundation (CSF) and Firside Junior School held a 50/50 fundraising run which the whole school took part in earlier this month.
A total of £9,000 was raised, with half going to the Community Sports Foundation and half to the Friends of Firside who are working to provide the new tablets.
“It was a wonderful community event with all children and staff members taking part. The energy was incredible with countless high fives given as we all ran around. We are so proud of all the children and staff for their fundraising efforts and we are very grateful to all of the families and friends of the children for their sponsorship,” said Lucy Seagrave, Assistant Head of School.
“The children were given number bibs, or they could design and make their own, to make it feel like a real run and they were also able to design message placards to encourage the children and adults with their running. It was truly a whole school effort.”
There were prize incentives for the participants to hit different targets with £20 achieving a bag, £40 a medal, £50 water bottle and £100 saw them receive signed merchandise. There was also a £50 voucher for the child who raised the most money.
The CSF arrived at the school with an inflatable starting archway and Years 3 and 4 went out first, cheered on by Years 5 and 6 before they swapped places.
The foundation is the official charity for Norwich City FC and offers a range of services within the wider community and money raised is reinvested into the charity. It also operates three facilities, The Nest, Brundall Sports Hub and Carrow Park.
