Wensum Trust students get a taste for Trinty

Excitement was rife amongst a group of Wensum Trust students after getting to experience university life for the very first time on a visit to Trinity College Cambridge.
Our students, a group of 30 Year 9s from Hellesdon High School in Norwich spent the day at the famous college, where they enjoyed a tour of the historic college and the wider University of Cambridge, met with staff and current Trinity students, and indulged in a delicious lunch in the historic dining hall.
Hellesdon Sixth Form Co-ordinator Sabrina Woodhouse, who accompanied the 30 students, said:
“After a fantastic lunch in the college’s impressive dining hall, the afternoon focused on how GCSE subject choices can open doors to future opportunities and careers. This was followed by a Q&A session with current Cambridge students."
The trip was organised by Hellesdon Sixth Form to raise the aspirations of its brightest Year 9 students, and to encourage them to think about aiming high for the future.
“The history behind the college is amazing – it really makes you want to study there,” said Max, while fellow Year 9 student Alex agreed: “With its prestigious academic atmosphere and incredible history, Trinity College was an inspiring place to visit.”
Director of Hellesdon Sixth Form, Richard Taylor said:
“There are not many places in the world where you can go into a library designed by Sir Christopher Wren of St Paul’s fame, and see an original maths book written by Sir Isaac Newton, next to an original Shakespeare play, besides a journal written by Charles Darwin where he disagrees with his teachers over evolution. If that’s not impressive enough, next to those is an original A. A. Milne Winne the Pooh book!”
Established by Henry VIII in 1546, Trinity boasts a remarkable list of world-famous alumni, including Isaac Newton, Francis Bacon, Lord Byron, A. A. Milne, Vladimir Nabokov, and King Charles III.
