Time to celebrate: Alderman Peel is D&T Hub

The student offering was ‘better by design’, when Alderman Peel High School in Wells-next-the-Sea was officially named as a Regional Design and Technology Hub.
The accolade from the Design and Technology Association (D&TA) was awarded to the school, following the work of Design and Technology Teacher, Amanda Moffat, who was chosen as one of just 14 Regional Design and Technology Leaders across the country.
“The designation follows sustained work to raise the profile and quality of Design and Technology and STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths] education at Alderman Peel High School,” said Mrs Moffat, whose support from the school’s leadership team, staff, and industry partners led to her nomination.
“This includes developing a broad and ambitious curriculum, building strong links with local industry partners, and creating extensive extra-curricular opportunities, such as the school’s STEM Club.
“The process involved national identification and selection by the Design and Technology Association, recognising individuals demonstrating innovation in D&T education. The appointment reflects ongoing work over several years to embed high-quality teaching, real-world learning, and student engagement in the subject.”
Mrs Moffat’s new role will see her work with the D&TA to support schools across the region, while Alderman Peel’s new status will bring extra learning and enrichment opportunities for the students, as well as deepening connections with industry.
“The Regional D&T Leader role involves supporting and mentoring other schools and teachers; sharing innovative teaching practices and curriculum approaches; promoting the value of Design and Technology education; and strengthening links between education and industry,” explained Mrs Moffat.
A ceremony took place to mark the occasion, where D&TA Curriculum and Professional Development Manager Lol Conway presented the school with an official plaque and certificate.
The event included student presentations from Nathan and Erin in Year 10 and Archie in Year 11, who each spoke about their enjoyment of Design and Technology and STEM at Alderman Peel, which is part of the Wensum Trust.
“It is a real privilege to be recognised as a Regional D&T Leader, and for our school to be designated as a Hub,” added Mrs Moffat. “This reflected the dedication of our staff and technicians, the enthusiasm of our students, and the strong support from our leadership team, and industry partners. Together, they enable us to provide meaningful, real-world experiences that have a lasting impact on our students.
“We are excited to support other schools, share best practice, and continue to champion the importance of Design and Technology in preparing young people for the future.”
