Children spread Christmas cheer at carol service
Young singers from a Wensum Trust school put the sparkle in Christmas when they sang together at this year’s Hellesdon Community Carol Service.
The 30 pupils from Reception and Years 1 and 2 at Heather Infant School joined others from primary schools in the area for the annual event, which took place at fellow Trust member Hellesdon High School on Sunday 7 December.
“It has been a long-standing tradition for Heather Avenue Infant School to take part in the Community Carol Concert,” said Deputy Headteacher Ruth Lilley.
“The children were practising for the last few weeks, and the week of the concert came together for two extra practices, which was very helpful. The children were really confident and were looking forward to sharing their songs with the local community.
“The children also looked forward to watching other schools share their Christmas songs.”
Songs performed by the Heather Avenue group included ‘Wriggly Nativity’ and ‘It Was on a Starry Night’, while they also impressed with their use of sign language.
“The children worked really hard practising their Nativity songs,” continued Miss Lilley, who supported the event alongside Class Teacher Wendy Howes and Cover Supervisor Naomi Hughes.
“They sang beautifully, and even added actions to both of their songs. For ‘It Was on a Starry Night’, the children complemented the song with Makaton.”
“At Heather Avenue, we feel it is very important to connect with our local community,” she added.
“Singing at the Carol Concert is a privilege, and the children were very excited to be part of this event and share with their grown ups who attended the Carol Service.”
