Hellesdon High School Ski Trip to Italy

Students recently returned from an unforgettable ski trip to Passo Tonale, Italy.

The trip ran from 27th March to 4th April and saw 42 students from Years 8–11 and Year 13 take part. Based at Hotel Piandineve, just a short walk from the slopes, students were perfectly placed to make the most of their time in the mountains.

Each day was packed with skiing, with students taking part in two sessions - two hours in the morning and three in the afternoon. Across the week, students of all abilities developed their skills, with beginners in particular showing impressive progress and growing confidence on the slopes.

Evenings offered time to relax and socialise after a full day of activity. Students enjoyed card games, board games, and time together in the hotel’s social spaces. One evening, the group visited the local village to enjoy authentic Italian pizza - an experience that proved especially popular.

Students were quick to share their enthusiasm:

“I loved the skiing! It was hard but so much fun.”
“The mountains were so beautiful.”
“I loved having a whole Italian pizza all for myself.”
“It was really cool to ski in real snow in the mountains.”
“I loved making so many new friends with people I’d never have met at school otherwise!”

The trip was led by Computer Science teacher Mr Hoffmann.  Reflecting on the experience, Mr Hoffmann said:

“Throughout the week, we saw students grow in confidence as their skiing improved, especially those who were beginners. Being in the mountain environment gave them a real break from everyday school pressures and had a noticeable impact on their mood and motivation.

It was fantastic to see students supporting each other and forming new friendships across year groups. Staying away from home also helped them develop independence and resilience. Trips like this are incredibly valuable - they support students’ physical, mental, and social development while creating lasting memories.”

Staff also noted stronger relationships forming between students and teachers, with bonds built that will positively impact the school community moving forward.
