Seasonal sparkle at school concert

Young entertainers brought some festive sparkle to the season when a Wensum Trust high school staged its annual Christmas Concert.

Thirty-six students from Years 7 to 13 took part in the sold-out performance at Hellesdon High School.

“There was a mixture of cover songs and solo pieces and duets, including piano, guitar, bass guitar, and vocals,” said Head of Music Lara Leuw-Gardner, who organised the event, coordinated performances, and appeared alongside the students.

“We had a Grade 8 drummer, George Haxell, who performed a solo piece. Grade 8 is the highest grade that can be achieved, so we were really looking forward to that and super proud of George.

“The cast of our upcoming production was also performing one of the numbers, and there was a duet by Isabelle Abbott and Poppy Grimble.”

The concert has been an annual event at the school since 2019, and regularly attracts a full audience of 200.

“Events like this are incredibly important,” added Ms Leuw-Gardner. “They give students a chance to show off what musical and performance talents they have to their parents in an environment that is not like a normal lesson.”
