13 MayLast term, a select group of students enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Theatre Royal in Norwich to view a performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company of Hamlet, the seminal tragedy which we study in year 8. With a bold new staging of this classic play, based around the sinking of the Titanic as a visual metaphor for the collapse of the Danish royal family, students enjoyed a vitally important performance context that brought the text to life and suitably captured the ramping-up of tension and unravelling of sanity the play is most famous for. The clever stagecraft, making use of digital screens as a backdrop to project imagery of the ocean and the slow sinking of the ship, ensured that the audience paid rapt attention to the drama on stage, and we were very pleased and proud to be complemented by members of the public expressing their appreciation of how our students comported themselves! The exciting performance really served to underline how important and beneficial it is for students to visit the theatre and consider performance contexts, which then will allow them to apply this understanding to other plays throughout their study of English Literature. #acleacademy #norwichtheatre #thersc

29 AprOn Friday, we were delighted to welcome Nigel Crane and Carrie-Anne Higgs from the catering department at City College Norwich. They were joined by Daniel Smith, Chef Patron of The Wildebeest and The Ingham Swan, along with two of his former chef apprentices, Leo and Liam. They spoke to our Year 11 catering students about pathways into the catering industry, highlighting how rewarding a career in this field can be. They also explained the benefits of apprenticeship programmes, particularly in gaining valuable hands-on experience, such as those offered at City College Norwich. Students and staff alike enjoyed a live cooking demonstration using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, with many eager to sample the finished dishes. #acleacademy #citycollegenorwich #thewildebeestnorfolk #theinghamswan
