Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition
On Saturday 16th March, some of our Year 9 Stretch Group, accompanied by two of our Year 7 students, went to the Magistrates’ Court in Great Yarmouth to compete in a national Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition run by Young Citizens.
This competition aims to help young people understand how the law touches every aspect of their lives, offering an insight into how the legal justice system works. The students have spent the last four weeks preparing, reading their case, developing their understanding the law and practising their speeches and questioning. It was amazing to see the professionalism, confidence and critical thinking applied in the courtroom on the day.
We are so proud of them all. They won both defence and prosecution! The magistrates that were supporting on the day commented on how impressed they were with them all. We just lost out on first place by 3 points, but the students should be so pleased with their impressive second place. We can’t wait for them to take part and support next year’s cohort to go all the way. Well done! You are all amazing!
