We hope you all had a lovely holiday. We think that the children enjoyed easing back into school gently last week with a 2 day week.

This week we are starting our new project 'Starry Night'. We will be learning about nocturnal animals and looking at their common features. We are also looking at what happens in the world when we are asleep, including jobs that people do at nighttime. The books we are using are 'Moon' and 'All Through the Night'

               

In phonics EYFS are learning more about short vowels and double letters. Year 1 are learning more about long vowels and the magic e.

We will be starting something new this week called Set Sentence where the adults dictate a sentence to the children and the children independently write the sentence. They will be encouraged to use their phonic skills and their sound mats to help them as well as remembering to put finger spaces in plus a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop at the end. They also need to think forming the letters correctly.  They will be doing two of these a week to build us independent writing skills. We will continue to do story scribes and acting these out at the end of the day.

We will be going down to the library for library time and reading in class plus we will have our daily story. The adults will be hearing all the children read.

In maths we will be using the language of more and fewer to describe a group of objects. We will be learning how to use the numberline to find one more and one less than a given number. We will be looking at hw to group ojects e.g. by colour or size. We will be continuing to practise number bonds to 5 so we will think about the addition and subtraction pairs up to 5.

In RSHE we will be labelling the body and talking about the NSPCC PANTS rule. In RE we will be discussing new year and listening to the story The Boy Who Cried Wolf. The children will also be having their weekly DOTS (mindfulness) lesson and yoga session.

We will start Marvellous Me this week where one child gets to be Marvellous for the week - they get to sit on a special chair and be the leader of the line. They also get to talk about their favourite things to the whole class.
