This week...

We are finishing off our project by looking at the night sky and learning about stars and contellations. We looked at The National Geographic book about space. Some of the children to make constellation pictures on black paper and used chalks and pastels for the stars. We are also learning about the importance of good mouth hygiene - we will be reading Titu's Troublesome Tooth and having a go at brushing the giant teeth we have in school. The children will discuss how to keep their teeth healthy.

We are doing phonic checks this week to see what the children have remembered and then we will adjust which reading book/stage they are on. We are focussing a lot on spotting digraphs in words before attempting to read them. Some children are not as confident with the digraphs as the single sounds so if you could all dig out the flash cards we sent home at Christmas and have lots of practice over half term then that would really help the children. Or you can download the Jolly Phonics app which will recap everything w have covered so far. More information here - https://www.jollylearning.co.uk/shop/uk-shop/phonics-resources/jolly-apps/jolly-phonics-sounds-adventure-app/

We will be hearing all the children read and change their books ready for the holidays - please try to practise a little every day as a week is a long time not to read at all.

We are writing two dictated sentences this week - if you would like to practise these at home check out last week's blog for more information.

In maths we are learning about the number 8 and the different parts that make the whole of 8.We are also looking at how the numbers increase by one each time and when you build towers you just add one more each time.  We used the numberblocks to help us to see this pattern.

We will be revisiting our school vision 'Learn to be happy, be happy to learn.' and the children will be discussing what things at school make them happy. In RE we will be learning about Shrove Tuesday and pancake day. The children will also be doing their weekly mindfulness and yoga session.

Have a good half term break!
