Olive and Jade class blog week beginning 30.10.23

Welcome back!

We hope you all had a great half term - the children have been telling us that they have enjoyed doing their phonics over the week so thank you for your support with this.

This week we are starting a new series of maths lessons called mastering number. We will be focussing on subitising which is where the children recognise an amount without counting. We will be working on this all week but only using the numbers 1, 2 and 3. In the normal maths lessons we will be recapping 1 - 3 and looking at how these numbers are made up. We will also look at the order of numbers and how to count three objects accurately by moving them and touching each object as you say a number. We will also be counting out 3 objects from a larger set.

In phonics the Reception children are doing oa (goat), ie, ee/or, z and w. The year ones are doing y as in ee all week. The stories in Jade class are Percy the Park Keeper and in Olive class the stories are Adventure stories.

We are starting our project this week which is called 'Let's Explore'. We will reading the story Rosie's Walk and We're Going on a Bear Hunt and we will create a story map.

We will continue to check the children's phonic knowledge to see how much they have remembered since the week off and we will hear the children read their reading books and change them - please can you try to write in the reading record book when you hear your child read at home so that we can see how they are getting on outside of school.

In RSHE we are celebrating differences and talking about what we are good at to show that not everybody is good at the same things. We have also introduced flipping the lid by showing the children this clip. You can see the poster we use with the children below. We have also reintroduced the calm corner and explained to the children that they can use it to help them regulate when they are experiencing big feelings.

The Year 1s have continued to do their daily sentence and practise writing cvc words. The Reception children are continuing to practise their letter formation skills.

Tomorrow it is school photos and the last day for ordering Christmas cards - please send your child's designs back to school when you have ordered so we can enter them into the competition.

Friday is non-uniform day and as payment please send in a little prize for the tombola at the Christmas fair.

Please remember to sign up for parents evening next week.

Have a good week!
