Ground Breaking of New Specialist Resource Base

The Wensum Trust have been chosen by Norfolk County Council to run the new SRB Unit that is being built at Arden Grove Infant & Nursery School.

A new Specialist Resource Base (SRB) is currently being built on the grounds of Arden Grove Infant & Nursery School, to provide educational provision for children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).

Funded by Norfolk County Council, this will be one of only four new specialist short-stay schools that are being built across the county, which will offer specialist therapeutic support alongside family learning for children aged 5 to 7.

We look forward to its doors opening later in the Autumn term, when we will be welcoming an initial cohort of eight children.

"The level of care and support that this new Specialist Resource Base will provide is going to be life-changing for so many of the children in our communities, as well as their families. We are very excited to be working with Norfolk County Council to deliver this much needed provision and to be part of such a positive and exciting venture. This aligns well with the innovative work The Wensum Trust is doing around mental health and well-being in education and is a huge step towards our goal of prioritising support for the wider benefit of children in Norfolk"

- Daniel Thrower, CEO at The Wensum Trust

In recent years, the UK has seen an alarming increase in the number of children with social and emotional needs, and we are seeing this reflected in Norfolk schools. The Wensum Trust is committed to addressing these needs by taking a more holistic approach to education, which prioritises children's mental health and well-being ahead of academic success.

The provision that we provide at the new SRB will offer opportunities for children across other Wensum Trust schools to access specialist support and for our staff to receive additional, high quality training in this important area of education.  We are fortunate to be working with eminent experts who are guiding us in our new approach to education and we look forward to sharing more news about this exciting project with you in the near future.

Poster Competition

Pupils at Arden Grove Infant & Nursery School were invited to enter a Poster Competition by Cocksedge Building Contractors, to help decorate the new site hoarding.

The competition is the culmination of a presentation delivered by Cocksedge Building Contractors, which highlighted the dangers of playing on building sites and provided educational information about careers in construction, all based around the new SRB building which is currently under construction.

The posters provided a very welcome display across the construction site and we extend our thanks to everyone involved in running and participating in the competition.

Darren Reeve, Commercial Manager of Cocksedge Building Contractors said: "We are delighted to have been selected by Norfolk County Council to deliver the new Special Resource Base and we are looking forward to working closely with The Wensum Trust and the school to ensure the work runs smoothly. This is also a great opportunity where we can assist with some project linked learning opportunities for the school children."
